We learned more about the Equal Rights Amendment ballot initiative to protect our rights and reproductive freedom, as well as hearing from state legislators about funding initiatives and improvements in the budget. &nbsp;These events remind us that our electorate is more similar to St. Lawrence County than it is to Westchester in terms of the challenges rural counties face in recruiting and electing Democrats. But upstate successes motivate us to keep working to build the party.In that light, our Putnam Democratic Committee is working with the state coordinated campaign to open a campaign office this summer and operate a robust voter outreach campaign. Running as both a Democrat and a young person, neither of which have had much political representation in our district, I am excited to carry the mantle of these groups to claim a seat at the table. Johnson was a warrior for social, economic, and racial equality and justice for all Americans. His unrelenting commitment to the causes of the poor and the disadvantaged through his passing of the Civil Rights Act, Great Society, Voting Rights Act, Medicare, and Medicaid has always inspired me, especially shining light on the importance of being an effective legislator and deal maker.<h4>What one thing do you want voters to know about you?</h4>ZC) A big reason for my faith in leadership, public service, and the good work that can come from politics is because of my experience as an Eagle Scout. I am proud to have brought together a group of 20 volunteers to build garden beds to grow produce for food-insecure community members at Northern Westchester Hospital, demonstrating the possibility and benefits of leadership, community work, and serving our friends and neighbors when we work together under a common cause. <h4>Putnam County Democratic Committee Opens Headquarters in Carmel</h4>On July 20th, the Putnam County Democratic Committee celebrated the Grand Opening of its Putnam County Campaign Headquarters in Carmel. Candidates Mondaire Jones, for Congressional District 17, Senator Peter Harckham (SD40), and Zack Couzens for Assembly District 94 rallied with Democrats from all six Putnam towns as they kicked off the summer voter outreach campaign from the new offices. They were joined by Putnam County Legislator Nancy Montgomery and Randall Mulkins, legislative candidate from Patterson, and Yvette Valdez Smith, candidate for NYS Senate District 39.&nbsp;This Putnam campaign office is made possible by the NY State Democratic Party and Governor Kathy Hochul, who have renewed their commitment to building the party in all 62 counties. This coordinated campaign effort, also funded by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and House Minority Leader (and soon to be Speaker) Hakeem Jeffries, will support the full Democratic ticket - from President Joe Biden down to Randall Mulkins for Putnam County Legislature - and everyone in between. Putnam candidates also include Legislator Nancy Montgomery, who is running unopposed this year; Dana Levenberg, who is running for re-election representing Assembly District 96, and Yvette Valdes Smith, for NY State Senate District 39. “Putnam County has not seen this level of commitment in many years, which is a testament to the changing tide. Voter registration is on the upswing, our party is growing, and every day we are getting calls and emails from people asking how they can help defeat Donald Trump and take back the House. They also took formal endorsement votes in support of incumbent County Legislator Nancy Montgomery (Dist 1), Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg (Dist 95), State Senator Peter Harckham (Dist 40), U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and President Joe Biden. Jones inspired party leaders from all 6 Putnam towns by recounting his successes during the most productive Congress in modern history (2019-2020), and talked about his goals for the future as Democrats take back control of the House of Representatives. “In one of the most competitive races in the country, in an election that could literally decide the fate of our democracy, Putnam Democrats stand ready and energized to take back this seat and get Congress back to working for the American people,” said Chair Jennifer Colamonico. “Mike Lawler must be held accountable for how little he has done other than support a literal zealot to lead his do-nothing caucus - no matter how many mailings he sends spinning fabrications of the truth.” The committee intends to support candidates in other races this year, including State Senate district 39, State Assembly district 94, two other seats on the Putnam County legislature, and a special election for Carmel Town Board. Early Endorsements

In 2023, Democrats won 62% of the seats where they competed across Putnam. The Committee congratulates successful 2023 endorsed candidates: re-electing, Putnam Valley Highway Supervisor Shawn Keeler; electing outgoing Putnam Valley clerk Sherry Howard to the Town Board; re-electing the Philipstown team of Supervisor John Van Tassel, Board members Judy Farrell and Bob Flaherty, Town Clerk Tara Percacciolo, and Highway Superintendent Adam Hotaling; and electing Angela Thompson-Tinsley as Philipstown Justice. We thank all the candidates who ran very competitive races, notably Kathy Kahng in Legislative District 3, and Maggie Ploener in Legislative District 2. Both of these candidates came within a few hundred votes of victory.
